Privacy Policy

RacePace (“we”, “us”) is a competitive 1 km league platform. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the RacePace mobile app and related services, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

RacePace provides account, league, run-tracking, and Runner Rating (RR) features through our mobile application and API. If you have questions about this policy, see Contact below.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use RacePace, we may collect:

Account data — email address, username, password (stored hashed), and optional name.
Profile & onboarding data — display name, age bracket, gender, city/region, running background, preferred distance, tracking preferences, and optional profile photo.
Run & location data — GPS points (latitude, longitude, timestamps), route polylines, start/end times, distance, duration, pace, and related validation metrics for official runs.
Competition data — league membership, weekly ranks and times, Runner Rating and history, and in-app notifications about results or account events.
Device & session data — authentication tokens on your device, and local run session state needed to continue an in-progress run.
Permissions you grant — location (including background location while an official run is active), photo library access for avatars, and notification permission for local run status alerts.

3. How we use information

We use the information above to:

Create and secure your account, including sign-in and password reset.
Set up your runner profile, assign starting RR, and place you in leagues and splits.
Record and server-validate official runs (including warmup and timed 1 km segments) so leaderboards remain fair.
Calculate weekly results and Runner Rating adjustments.
Show leaderboards, ladders, profiles, and analytics in the app.
Operate, maintain, and improve the service, and communicate important service messages.

With other runners. Competition features are social by design. Other users may see your display name, avatar, city/region, Runner Rating, ranks, and official times on leaderboards and related screens.

With service providers. We host the RacePace API and databases on cloud infrastructure (currently Google Cloud). Map display in the app may use Google Maps. Mobile builds may be distributed via Expo / EAS and app stores. These providers process data only as needed to deliver their services to us.

Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of RacePace and its users.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Location data

Location is core to RacePace. During official runs we collect precise GPS route data to time and validate your performance. Background location is used only while a run session is active so tracking can continue if the app is not in the foreground. We do not use your run GPS data for advertising.

6. Retention

We keep account, profile, run, league, and rating data for as long as your account remains active and as needed to operate leagues and historical standings. Authentication tokens expire on a short schedule; refresh tokens may be revoked on logout. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or de-identify associated personal data except where we must retain limited records for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures appropriate to a competitive sports app, including hashed passwords, token-based authentication, and encrypted transport (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong unique password and keep your device locked.

8. Your choices & rights

You can update profile details in the app.
You can revoke location, photos, or notification permissions in your device settings (some features will not work without location).
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us (see below).
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. We will respond to verified requests as required by law.

9. Children

RacePace is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version at this URL and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of RacePace after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
